Investing from Germany & Europe

Germany is home to one of the largest Pakistani diaspora communities in Europe, with significant populations also in the UK, Italy, Spain, France, and the Nordic countries. Investing from Europe presents unique opportunities and challenges — from favorable tax treaties between Pakistan and several EU countries, to the regulatory complexity of managing investments across two jurisdictions, to the impact of the EUR/PKR exchange rate on your returns.

This chapter will provide a Europe-specific guide to investing in Pakistan. We will cover how to open and fund an RDA from European banks (including SEPA transfer considerations), the tax implications of Pakistani investment income under German, Italian, and other European tax systems, and how to report foreign assets to your local tax authority. For German residents specifically, we will discuss the interaction between Pakistani investments and the Schufa system, Anlage KAP reporting, and the 801 EUR Sparerpauschbetrag.

We will also explore dual-investment strategies — how to balance investing in European markets (through ETFs, Riester/Rürup pensions, or local property) with investing in Pakistan, and how to think about your overall portfolio allocation when you have financial obligations and goals in both countries.
