Health Insurance & Protection
Health Insurance & Protection
One of the biggest gaps in a freelancer's financial plan is health insurance. Unlike salaried employees who often receive group health coverage from their employers, freelancers must arrange and pay for their own health insurance — and many simply do not. A single medical emergency can wipe out months or even years of savings, making health insurance not a luxury but a necessity.
This chapter will survey the health insurance options available to freelancers in Pakistan. We will cover individual health insurance plans from major insurers (EFU, Jubilee, Adamjee, State Life, and others), takaful (Islamic insurance) alternatives, and the emerging digital health platforms that are making insurance more accessible and affordable. We will compare plans based on coverage limits, premium costs, hospital network size, and claim settlement reputation.
Beyond health insurance, we will also discuss other protection products that freelancers should consider: life insurance (especially if you have dependents), critical illness cover, and disability insurance that can replace income if you are unable to work. Building a comprehensive protection plan is the foundation upon which all other financial planning rests.
